About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Union City, Garcia's Restaurant stands as a beacon of authentic Ecuadorian cuisine that promises to transport your taste buds straight to the vibrant streets of Ecuador. This charming restaurant, located at 800 John F. Kennedy Blvd West, delivers an exceptional dining experience defined by its rich flavors, generous portions, and warm, inviting atmosphere.

Garcia's prides itself on a diverse menu that beautifully showcases classic Ecuadorian dishes crafted with passion and care. Their Encebollado—a hearty albacore tuna soup enhanced with sliced red onions, cilantro, boiled cassava, and aromatic spices—is a crowd favorite, hailed by regulars as the best in New Jersey. For those seeking a seafood extravaganza, the Encebollado Barcelona is an unforgettable medley of albacore tuna, shrimp, calamari, and wahoo ceviche, all melded together with fresh tomatoes and herbs. Each bowl arrives steaming hot, bubbling with layers of robust, coastal flavors that are both comforting and exhilarating.

The menu is a treasure trove for seafood lovers with offerings like Sopa Marinera, Cazuela De Mariscos, and the delicately crusted, perfectly fried Pescado Frito. Meat enthusiasts will delight in the tender Churrasco Ecuatoriano served alongside a tangy naranjilla sauce, and the Arroz Lanco Mixto, a vibrant rice dish interspersed with succulent cuts of meat. The use of fresh ingredients is evident in every bite — from the crisp kale salad to the golden, crunchy tostones that provide the perfect textural contrast.

What sets Garcia's apart is not only their authentic recipes but also the impeccable presentation and consistency. Plates arrive beautifully arranged, rich in color and aroma, tempting you even before the first bite. Customers frequently praise the generous portions that allow you to savor each dish fully, with many mentioning that leftovers make for just as delightful a second meal.

The atmosphere at Garcia’s is lively yet cozy, ideal for everything from intimate dinners to lively group gatherings. On busy weekends, a line often forms outside—a true testament to Garcia’s growing reputation. Inside, friendly and knowledgeable staff go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels welcomed and informed, patiently walking diners through their exquisite menu options.

Real patrons share glowing experiences: one visitor was instantly impressed by the authenticity and flavor that brought their memories of Ecuador to life. Another loyal customer swears by the Encebollado Barcelona and praises the Guatita and Caldo de Bola as must-tries. Newcomers often find themselves amazed by the rich, exciting flavors, with many promising to return for seconds and thirds.

In sum, Garcia's Restaurant is more than just a place to eat—it's an immersive journey into Ecuadorian culinary tradition, served with generous hospitality and unrivaled expertise. Good location.... Why are the reviews so old... Took a chance and was really impressed ... - my party of five enjoyed everything that was ordered.... Every plater was very well made in presentation and flavor was authentic (some platters were sold out) We made a reservation and they did not have to wait... There were people making a line for a Saturday afternoon.... Will definitely come back ...

Amazing! First time here, first time eating Ecuadorian food and everything got an A+. From the rice to the soup to the breading on seafood… was not expecting it to be that good. Service was also great, our server was thorough and patient when explaining every dish. Will definitely come back!

Huge portions and great quality. The encebollado here is truly the best. I’ve eaten at pretty much all of the other Ecuadorian places from here to Perth Amboy and can confidently say the encebollado is my favorite here. People from NYC come all the way here for this food, that’s how good it is! Another plate I can recommend is chaulafan. Soooooo good and you’ll be guaranteed to bring some home. Great price for the quality you get.
